Pregnant women use substances for many different reasons
Many pregnant women who use substances are coping with very difficult life situations.  Pregnant women who find it difficult to quit substance use are likely addicted. Or they feel they  need substances to feel normal and able to get through the day.

It doesn’t help when other people think women don’t  care. Women need compassion and empathy. That’s what helps them change.

Children affected by FASD can grow, improve, and function well in life with proper support. Women who use substances can change and find different ways to cope with their lives with proper support. Pregnant and parenting women, children, families, and caregivers need healthy communities and a circle of support.
